I'm the founder and principal consultant at Yorkforte Ltd. I provide FP&A services to businesses across the UK and Europe. I've also buit a SaaS tool for freight forwarders.
Hi, I’m Richard York. I help businesses make sense of their numbers through Yorkforte. I’ve also built a product to help freight forwarders stop losing money on demurrage and detention.
Background
I am a qualified management accountant. I’ve earned my stripes working in FP&A roles in a variety of companies and industries. Having worked for over 15 years in the logistics & supply chain industry, I understand complex, global business operations. In fact, my curious nature and desire to be close to the business are the key reasons why I excel in financial analysis, forecasting, and budgeting.
Originally from the UK, I moved to Switzerland to take on more responsibility and make a greater impact in my career. After a decade in Switzerland, I spent 8 years running my own consultancy from Portugal.
Now
In 2026 I relocated to Rothesay, on the Isle of Bute in Scotland, where the business now operates as Yorkforte Ltd.
Alongside my FP&A consulting work, I designed and built the Ocean D&D Calculator. It’s a SaaS tool that automates demurrage and detention charge calculation and container tracking for freight forwarders. It replaces the error-prone spreadsheets most operations teams still rely on. It’s currently going through final onboarding with a global freight forwarding client, and I’m actively talking to others in the industry about what it could do for their operations.
Building a real software product, rather than just consulting on other people’s numbers, has been one of the most satisfying parts of growing Yorkforte – it’s a chance to solve a problem I understood intimately from my own years in logistics.
Running my own business gives me a sense of purpose and greater scope to Make A Difference. It has allowed me to work with a wide range of clients — from tech start-ups to family-run SMEs to global corporations — across the UK, Switzerland, Germany, and beyond.
However, it’s not all work and no play. A balanced life matters to me – time for family, community, and leisure alongside my clients and the business. The Isle of Bute has its own charm, and I’ve been getting involved locally since the move. With those areas of life in balance, I’m happier, more optimistic, and more motivated in the work itself.
I’m proud of what I’ve built, and of the leap I took to build it. Many happy clients have left positive reviews, and that keeps me motivated to keep raising the bar – for my consulting clients and for the freight forwarders now using the D&D Calculator.
